The best way to visualize the guitar fretboard..
I am in the community and there is really no need for any hardcore UA-cam surfing anymore. David has an amazing journey and it's laid out so easy and there is new all the time. It's the 🔥!
Iv always said carlos make love to his guitar and that's what makes him stand out to me.
doesn't sound wacky at all. it comes from deep down in your soul
Maybe a stupid question from a beginners/intermediates perspective: why are the blue notes not addressed here at all... as its blues we talk about, right?
Just because they don’t fit the logic of using notes within the chords. The blue notes are very much outside adding a lot of tension (which is cool too!)
Very good lesson thx
I want more of the tense stuff in my playing! That's what I"m into at the moment.
I hit the dislike button, but did a major bend and made it the like button. Good lesson. I'm learning to think outside the box.
I like how you address the pit falls we all get into that impede our creativity
I love this stuff....thank you, sir!!!
I like the sound you have going there!
It’s not in your fingers / hands.
I understand nothing!!!!!
there`s a book tha kind of speaks abou this, it`s called "Free play : improvisation in life and art"
Please post the back track link. That hits the spot! Good stuff.
This is amazingly helpful. Being a visual learner makes it a bit tougher as a guitarist trying to expand. Thanks, David!!
Great video, thanks
🤘
This is the best lesson , continue to teach in this easy way any body can understand.........
Does it have to be connect it to an amp? Or it has its own speaker? Thanks
Could you use this software to only listen to drums for example from a song that already exists?
the spirtual guitar
I saw Santana live in in Seattle in 93. He played some shred stuff that was comparable to yngwie Malmsteen and Vai and I was blown away. So Santana does have the skill and capability but he knows what type of playing fits a good song and knows the song is more important than his shred abilities.
Santana has soul feel and one of the greatest tones ever unlike many shredder guitarists that are good at one thing and that is technique technique is just a part of music technique can be musical yet they aren't getting the whole picture David Gilmore Jeff. Beck Robin thrower Rory Gary Moore bb king Joe Walsh Jimmy page all fit in where they lack in technique they shine with artistic emotion something you absolutely can't learn from Berkeley or git
No doubt that it is awesome but it’s truely expensive
❤❤🎉
The respect for Eric Clapton was based on the same subtle techniques as Billy Gibbons used. Tom Dowd, producer of Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs said it best, "Eric always takes off on his solos but he always comes back to finish the song on the correct measure. And, he always completes his musical idea simultaneously at the solo break or finish of the song."
I thought your approach would be different but you only end up so confusing. You have no direct approach or pattern. Just like anybody else's teaching. Irrelevant.
Just great u did i love it
Hi ive been playing music since i was 8 im 47 now, a qualified classical guitar teacher now and i play electric guitar also. Ive been in and out of depression most of my life and I quit teaching a few years ago. Im broke, I dont advertise my skills on the internet, i play the very occasional wedding for friends and I've made a bunch of recordings that i give only to people who know me. I started going to church just this year for the first time in my life I think it was because of all the dystopian madness going on in the world. Anyway enough about me, do whatever makes you feel good brother, bless you. 🙌
David, I come back to this video time and time again. To me, it's one of your best ideas and concepts for learning guitar. I know you recently came back to YT. I hope you have more lessons for us. You always have such a unique way of teaching.
Hi hope you are well. I get the visualisation diagram but is it really necessary? why reinvent the wheel? Intervals between notes are easy to understand on any musical instrument. How notes sound when played together and emotions invoked depends on the player or listener doesn't it? There are no rules or restrictions this is the magic and mystery. Just play anything.
It helps later on when matching g complex chords to modes and also there is a bunch you can do with it when dealing with modulation. I find it very useful!
He knows that his guitar matters to him but it's not a gibson SG that made him famous right Carlos it's that pice of sell out that made you famous Carlos
Not at all useful.
Just because you don't understand it does not make it unusefull
Even xyz shape lesson with no tmusical heory approach is way better than tjis way lees comfusimg and instant understanimg. Example mixolydian scale start on ST6 fr3 Play 3 dots 357 654 strings The note 5strimg 5th fret is the middle dorean How bloody simple is that for anybody looking at the guitar can play all degrees of major scale just using the dots as a skeleton which then can be used to explain complex chords 11 13 etc
What total pants have nobody showed you clock faces before or explained the god and the devil yet ? How bloody stupid the DNA sheet is It doesn't show how or why of explanation at least in clock faces where if you start any scale on 12 and go round you can see clearly. For example dorian mode is equal forward as it is backwards 12 2 3 5 7 9 10 is shown This is why dorean is neither sad or happy but mediant of the 7 tones. It's easy working on You will see that phygian scale is in fact Ionian backwards which most do not even know even though it's in plain simple sight if you use the right technique. Unfortunately this DNA is pants And if nobody knows that a tone in music is called tonality equality then I would ask them to quit learning or start again surely
Glad you're back. Missed your videos.
Now that was a practical guitar lesson. Something to wrap my mind and fingers around . Thank you David
I watched it and still have no idea what he is talking about. How does the first symmetrical pattern maps to the scale pattern shown on the fretboard?
The symmetrical pattern is a visual representation of all possible intervals.
@@Wallimann But what specific intervals are these? I can tell which intervals are in the fretboard pattern later: it's a scale, it shows the root, it's movable, and so on. There are what though? What does "all possible intervals means"? All possible intervals in a scale? In all scales? Would it be the same if created a pattern with 6 x 24 dots -- all possible intervals in the guitar, all notes on the fretboard!
@@Wallimann ok, I got it: it's not supossed to be a shape or be applied on the fretboard (where the intervals are different between strings) - that was what confused me. It's supposed to just be a diagram of various intervals and whether they can have major, minor, augment, etc flavors. It's drawn looking somewhat like a scale shape or something mapping to the fretboard directly, but it just as well could have been a table with rows and columns.
Yeah exactly!
All we need is more systems, shapes and patterns. Woohooo. That thumbnail is scary as f.
I am very sorry you felt that way at the start. No one should unsubscribe because of that.
Interesting testing about Satriani - he came out of the Lennie Triatano school which is mega metronome. It’s interesting what you say. It took me a long time to learn to play behind the beat which is important for jazz, but I started as a blues head. Maybe this is why.
Isnt a maj 2nd and min 2nd the same thing?
No, there are 2 types of 2nds (Major and minor)
Cmaj...cdefgabc....Cmin cd eflat fga bflat. The second is d on both. Am I missing something?
I would intuitively say that I liked this video, so I looked for the Perfect Like button. On the left it is one fret above (to the left) of the dislike video, which would be an Imperfect Like, or Diss like.
I guess this is pure theory because its not tab ???
Yes no tabs in here..
How about using” so-fa syllables “? Apply the movable “ do”
You could do that too!
Perfect David. Thank
I haven't watched the video yet, but I will say that the thumbnail is pure madness. Here's to hoping it starts to make sense!
I have never seen the fretboard visualized like that before. Interesting concept, I know major and minor modes really well though.
Toda la wea mal configurada
i love playing in church as well
